Former Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric says that he cannot wait to get back into the pitch after recovering sufficiently from his injury problems. The Croatian man has been a major absentee in the Madrid midfield over the last few months.
He was heavily linked with a return back to the Premier League during the summer – despite being in the best form of his life – but it appears that he is certain to stay at Madrid for the upcoming years. He recently posted a message saying that the club can look forward to seeing him on the pitch sooner rather than later.
Due to the incredible squad strength, Carlo Ancelotti has not really missed Modric except in a few matches. The club also signed Lucas Silva from Brazilian outfit Cruzeiro in the January transfer window for close to £ 10 million.
Despite being a relative unknown, the young Brazilian is expected to start more matches as Modric continues his efforts to build his fitness. Prior to getting injured, the 29-year-old made 14 appearances in all competitions and created three goals. He has proved to be an effective replacement for Xabi Alonso in the first half of the season. Despite suffering just one defeat since the injury to Modric, Carlo Ancelotti says that the club will be even stronger when they get the Croatian back.
“We’ve planned everything to be in top form when it counts, but you can’t just look ahead to that moment. It’s a long season and you can’t take your eye off the ball. We’re waiting to get Modric back, but the rest of the squad are fine. We have no injuries or other problems. Once Modric is fit the team will be back at its competitive best,” said Ancelotti. “I had a great training session this morning. I’m really keen to get back out on the pitch,” said Modric.
