There are rife reports in Sociedad that their star midfielder Martin Odegaard would be recalled by Real Madrid to replace the aging Luka Modric this summer. The youngster was due to stay at the La Liga side as a loanee for one more season based on the two-term agreement with Madrid. However, Zinedine Zidane has decided to bring the player back to the Bernabeu as part of his rebuilding effort.
Rising from Real Madrid Castilla in 2014, he got a deal with the club in 2016. He has been on loan spells at Heerenveen, Vitesse and Real Sociedad. Now he is having his first breakthrough season in the league as a professional.
He is touted as the man to replace Modric, learning from him in the next season as Modric winds down his contract with Madrid. Since joining for 35 million Euros in 2012, the Croatian has been an integral player in the squad but now age has caught up with him. Rather than left him off for 12 million Euros based on current market value, Madrid will retain his services before his deal lapses next summer, while he helps groom the next generation of stars to take over, including Odegaard.
