The Croatian midfielder Luka Modric has admitted that he has not been at his best in his first six months at Real Madrid. The former Tottenham midfielder was a £ 35 million signing for the Spanish club in the summer. He was expected to straightaway make a huge impression at the club due to the fact that he has been experienced a lot with top-flight football. Modric has been one of the best players for Tottenham in the last four seasons, while he has helped them to finish in the top four positions in two of the last three seasons.
However, he has struggled with form and consistency during the first six months at the Santiago Bernabeu, which has seen him only start a handful of matches. The 27-year-old was recently voted by the Spanish football fans as the worst signing in the summer. Modric has chosen not to make any excuses for his poor performances by saying that there is a lot of pressure when it comes to playing for Real Madrid. He has said that there had been a few good performances from him and he hopes to build on them in the future. The 27-year-old has managed to start only eight matches for the club.
“This is Real Madrid. I understand there is great pressure for new signings to succeed here. I’m not making excuses, I am not that kind of person, but it is very challenging to adapt to life at a big club like Madrid. I have had a few good performances, if not in every game, but I believe that I can prove I have something to offer,” said the midfielder. Real Madrid on a whole have been poor in the league this season, which has seen Barcelona open a 16 point advantage in the table.
